Andrew joined the firm in 2008, and became an Associate in 2011 and was appointed Senior Associate in 2013. Andrew obtained a Bachelor of Laws from Monash University and a Bachelor of Social Sciences from RMIT and was admitted to practice in 2007.
Andrew practises in a broad range of areas, and particularly in Crime, Wills & Probate, and Employment Law. Andrew regularly appears at Court in a range of criminal and civil matters, in particular Police matters, and Litigation arising from monetary and damages claims.
Andrew is an experienced Criminal Advocate, regularly appearing at Court on behalf of his clients charged with all manner of criminal offences, including assault and battery, sexual assault, fraud, theft, traffic, and drugs, with a high level of commitment translated into success. Andrew is available to attend for urgent matters, including bail applications and attendances at police stations for interviews. Andrew regularly draws on the firm’s network of leading psychologists and psychiatrists to assist in the preparation of Court Reports.
Andrew also regularly appears at VCAT and the Supreme Court where there is a family dispute as to the care being given to a person with a disability (such as dementia), or where clients have been left out of a Will, or feel they have been inadequately provided for. He has extensive experience in mediations and given his highly sought negotiation skills at mediations, he achieves positive results and outcomes, so that often contested estate matters can be settled prior to trial.
Andrew has gained expertise in drafting effective Wills, ensuring that they are reflective of the Testator’s wishes and in advising Testators to minimize any potential contest to their Will. He has also gained expertise in drafting and finalising Guardianship documents (including powers of attorney) and advising on death administration matters. Andrew has extensive knowledge and experience in obtaining a Grant of Probate and administering a deceased estate from start to finish, and is able to advise executors and beneficiaries under a Will of their rights and entitlements under a Will of a loved one.
Andrew has experience in all aspects of Litigation from pre-litigation settlement negotiations, through to the discovery phase, mediations and trial. Andrew is able to draw on the firm’s network of experienced specialist barristers to appear at Court and advise on complex issues when required. In 2009, Andrew instructed Queens Counsel in a civil trial against an AFL footballer before a jury in the County Court of Victoria, and a number of expert medical witnesses were subpoened to give evidence in what was a high profile case concerning a vicious assault and battery. Through effective negotiation, Andrew was able to reach a settlement for the firm’s client for a large amount of damages, before the trial concluded.
Andrew has conducted large civil and commercial cases concerning allegations of unconscionable conduct, misrepresentation and fraudulent banking dealings, often involving significant number of defendants and third parties. Andrew appears regularly in the County Court of Victoria, and has conducted complex civil and criminal cases, with numerous witnesses, and reports prepared by expert forensic chartered accountants, over allegations of false accounting and theft.
Andrew is also experienced in drafting employment contracts and the application of ‘unfair dismissal’ laws, and providing practical advice to employees and employers alike. Andrew is available to appear at Fair Work Commission for compulsory Conciliations, and brings his experience and extensive knowledge of the new Fair Work Act 2009, as well as his proven negotiating style to deliver positive outcomes for clients.
Andrew regularly advises and represents clients on property matters, including sales of land and disputes with builders. Andrew is also actively involved in the supervision of conveyancing matters undertaken by the firm.
Andrew is a member of the Law Institute of Victoria and being a Solicitor on the Register of the High Court is entitled to practice in any Federal Court.
